Hey! What´s up?

My name is David; I’m studying 4th of ESO in San Jerónimo School. This school is outside Alba de Tormes.

This village is famous because of the Duchess of Alba, Saint Teresa…. and many more famous people!

In this village there isn´t sea, but there are many monuments which you can visit and enjoy. You can also walk around the banks of Tormes River while you take photos, see the animals…

Now, you can visit the exhibition “Las Edades del Hombre”, the basilica and the castle too.

I think that the main monument in Alba de Tormes is the castle. Every week it receives many tourists, because from the top of the castle you can see the village and the bridge.

I hope that you ask about us.

You are welcomed in Alba de Tormes!

David

It is a quiet place to spend the afternoon with your friends. A place to visit a museum is San Jeronimo School, where you can see the ruins of the old church.

Welcome to Alba de Tormes

Hello everyone!
Alba of Tormes is an almost magical place to live and visit. If you like quiet villages with a beautiful medieval bridge and a great river full of life, you must visit us.
Alba of Tormes is also very important historically, because this is the place where Saint Teresa of Jesus was buried, specifically in the sepulcher in the altarpiece of the church.
You can also visit churches like St. John of the Cross, Santiago, and the monastery of San Jerónimo, currently my school, founded by Father Belda.
This school is fantastic because it is not an usual school. You can visit the archaeological museum of Father Belda and its relics, parts of the monastery, swords and stones and skulls of the Prehistoric Ages.
And there is much more to do in Alba of Tormes.
Visit us and you will not regret.

Álvaro

Saint Teresa and Alba De Tormes

Saint Teresa was a woman who did many good works in her life.

She was born in Ávila and was buried in Alba de Tormes.

Since she was very young she wanted to follow God and went into a convent; later she founded her own Order: The Discalced Carmelites.

She was a friend of the Dukes of Alba and in her last days of life attended a great event in court.

Saint Teresa´s body is divided in several places: Alba de Tormes, Ávila, Rome, Málaga…

Today her name is remembered with honor and pride in the village of Alba de Tormes.

This small village, where she died, is very important in the History of Spain, because it belongs to the ducal family.

Recently the Queen Sofía of Spain came to inaugurate an exhibition dedicated to the Saint.

Hi!

I’m a student in San Jerónimo, a High School in Alba de Tormes. This year is very special for us because we celebrate the 500th birthday of our patron saint: Teresa of Jesus.

Here you can visit some places (the Castle, the Basilica - which holds the exhibition “Las Edades del Hombre”, some churches and the Tormes river), accompanied with commemorative events.

Outside Alba de Tomes, we find the High School and Seminary San Jerónimo, a Christian school with a large archaeological museum called “Father Belda”, with different activities for teenagers (a swimming pool and sports areas).

I expect you have a good and happy stay.

Greetings,

Paula

Saint Teresa of Jesus

She was born in Avila on 28th March 1515 and died in Aba de Tormes on 4th October 1582. She was buried in the church of the Annunciation in Alba de Tormes. The original sepulcher where Teresa was buried was in the left side of the church, in an arch opened in the wall to leave space for the sepulcher. She was buried in the ground and 9 months later the tomb was opened, discovering that her body was remaining incorrupt. From 1615 to 1760 her remains were deposited in a sarcophagus of marble on the place of the burial. The body of Saint Teresa rests nowadays in a sepulcher placed in the altarpiece of the major chapel. Some relics, like the heart and the left arm, are in the room of Saint Teresa, in the same church.
